Josef Mengele
Josef Mengele studied physical anthropology and genetics at Frankfurt University Institute of Hereditary Biology and Racial Hygiene and is often referred to as the “Angel of Death.” Mengele chose who got to go to the camp and who was to be sent to the gas chambers upon arrival at Auschwitz. Mengele was fascinated by twins and favored experimenting on them.
Herta Oberheuser
Oberheuser removed limbs and vital organs from children while they were fully conscious then killed the children by injecting them with oil and evipan, a hypnotic drug. Herta Oberheuser lacerated the flesh of her test subjects then rubbed foreign objects such as crushed glass, sawdust, and dirt into their open wounds.
Joachim Mrugowsky
Joachim Mrugowsky was a Chief Hygienist of the Waffen SS (the Nazi party's fighting force) and a key figure in the planning and carrying out of numerous gruesome medical experiments in many concentration camps.
Heinrich Berning
Berning was a doctor who studied at Hamburg University in Hamburg, Germany. He was notorious for starving Soviet prisoners to death while performing his famous “famine experiments” on them.
Carl Clauberg
Carl Clauberg studied medicine and gynecology at the University of Kiel and came to Auschwitz in the December of 1942. Clauberg is infamous for injecting liquid acids into the uteruses of over 700 Jewish and Gypsy women in order to sterilize them. This procedure was done without any anesthetics.
